Conservation > Treatments> Jan Sadeler I after Jan van der Straet, Death Visiting the Poor
At least two conservation problems can be easily identified in the before treatment photograph; there is staining, especially in the caption area on the lower margin and there are losses towards the top of the left hand edge. In the after treatment photograph, the care with which the conservator has repaired the losses is very clearly discernible. The improved colour of the print (and thus the greater contrast between paper and ink) as a result of the washing treatment can also be seen very readily in the photograph taken after the conservation treatment. The reduced staining can also be seen, particularly against the blank background of the title and caption areas of the print.
