Conservation > Treatments > Wenceslaus Hollar, Two views of London, before and after the great fire of 1666

This print’s large size (approximately 22 x 67cm) increase the difficulty in treating this print. It was originally part of a book so there are vertical folds. The drying and flattening treatment reduced the appearance of these folds, as can be seen in the after treatment photograph. Following solubility testing and a surface clean, this print was given a washing and stain reduction treatment. The greatly reduced yellowing seen in the after treatment photograph is the result of this. An adhered hinge was also removed and the print was rehoused in an archival mount.
